Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

Yokimitsuro/khdays-port

A native PC port of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days built on khdays-decomp, the same author’s matching decompilation of the Nintendo DS game. The decompilation’s C code is compiled for the PC, and the port supplies what the DS hardware did underneath: graphics, sound, input, the game card, interrupts, and the system calls of its SDK. No DS machine code runs, since it has no ARM interpreter. According to the project, the whole game works: Story Mode with its movies and cutscenes, Mission Mode, combat and magic, the shop, and saves, which are compatible with DS saves. It draws the picture with Direct3D 12 or Vulkan, with the 3D at up to eight times the DS resolution, anti-aliasing, 16:9 or 16:10 widescreen, a picture at the monitor’s refresh rate while the game still runs at 30 frames, and a single-screen mode with a rearranged HUD. It has keyboard and mouse, controller support, and rebindable controls, optional enhancements such as camera control with the right stick or the mouse and the Kingdom Hearts II button layout, 99 save slots with autosave, an option to retry a mission from the pause menu, and Mission Mode multiplayer over a local network or over the internet through a matchmaking server, which is included so you can host your own. Mods can replace textures, models, 2D graphics, sounds, and videos and add Lua scripts, and the repository includes khdays-studio, a tool to make them. With your copies of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, its tools build menus, HUD, and screens in the style of those collections and play their HD videos. For now there’s only a 64-bit Windows build, with an installer; Linux and macOS are planned. The latest release is 0.1.3 (October 19). Its author states that AI-assisted coding tools were used.

You needYour own European Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days ROM for Nintendo DS (YKGP), which the installer checks by its SHA-256 and also finds where KH Melon Mix keeps one inside the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX folder. For the HD pieces, optionally, your copies of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, from Steam or the Epic Games Store; the HD videos take about 6.5 GB. Plus 64-bit Windows and a graphics card with Direct3D 12 or Vulkan.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (khdays-decomp)

Yokimitsuro/khdays-decomp

A matching decompilation of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for Nintendo DS, European release (YKGP), built with the same compiler as the original, CodeWarrior for DS (mwccarm 3.0, build 139). Every function of the ARM9 program and its overlays matches the original, the 306 modules it builds are byte-identical to the game’s, and all of the initialized data is reconstructed. All of the game’s own code is C except two functions that need the clz instruction, which the compiler can’t produce from C; the rest of the assembly is library code (NitroSDK, the CodeWarrior runtime, and MobiClip) that was assembly in its original source too. By the project’s count, about 23,125 of its roughly 23,233 functions are in C (99.5%, and 99.73% of the code bytes). The work now is making that C readable: declaring once the structures the files share, naming what is still named by address, and grouping functions back into their original files. It uses dsd (ds-decomp) to extract and delink the code from your ROM, and contributions can be made through decomp.me. On its own it doesn’t produce a playable build: the same author’s native PC port, khdays-port, which has its own entry, is built on it. The DS Protect sources were reconstructed from taxicat1’s decompilation, and to identify NitroSDK functions it compiles the NitroSDK from pret’s Pokémon Diamond decompilation. The repository, opened on June 26, includes neither the ROM, nor game assets, nor the original assembly, and its code is in the public domain (CC0).
