HarbourMasters/PaperBoat

Paper Mario 64 port by Harbour Masters, the Ship of Harkinian team, built on the Paper Mario DX decompilation. It’s a decomp port, not a static recompilation, unlike the other Paper Mario project in the catalog, which does recompile the binary. A compatibility checker lets you verify your dump is supported before you start.

You needYour own copy of Paper Mario (N64, US version; SHA-1 3837f44cda784b466c9a2d99df70d77c322b97a0).

Paper Mario

SMCGames/Paper-Mario-ReCut-Deprecated

“ReCut”: a recompiled port of the papercraft RPG. It boots and supports live texture replacement; it’s AI-assisted, and widescreen never worked. Its author retired it on October 21 and recommends switching to PaperBoat, which has its own entry.

You needYour own Paper Mario ROM (N64, US version), validated by hash.

Star Rod

z64a/star-rod

Star Rod: a suite of tools for editing assets from the Paper Mario (2000) decompilation, written in Java for Windows, Linux, and macOS. The release archives bundle a platform-specific Java runtime, so you don’t need to install Java. Its tools include a map editor, which since 0.10.0 (March 26, 2025) imports formats such as fbx and gltf, a sprite editor, and a world map editor, both with undo and redo. The latest version, 0.10.2 (July 21, 2025), fixes Set Raster commands clearing when duplicated in the sprite editor and asset stack texture handling. The guide to getting started with Paper Mario modding is at docs.starhaven.dev. MIT license.

You needThe Paper Mario decompilation (pmret/papermario), which builds from your own copy of the game’s ROM (N64); the setup guide is at docs.starhaven.dev. Plus Windows, Linux, or macOS; Java is bundled.
