Gen1Recomp

bryanthaboi/gen1recomp

A native Lua/LÖVE recreation of the first three generations of Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Despite the name, it no longer stops at the first generation. The engine and map behavior are hand-written; the game data and graphics are decoded from a ROM the player supplies. It’s a recreation, not a static recompilation. There are Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS builds, among others. Beware: the gen1recomp.com website isn’t the project’s, and its author asks people not to download anything from it.

Mod

PotatoVoxel

Nexhas28/potato_voxel

A Gen1Recomp mod that turns the first-generation Pokémon overworld into a 3D voxel diorama, with terrain depth, billboard characters, and shadows, while staying playable on handhelds, phones, and lower-powered computers. It has quality presets from HIGH to POTATO and a persistent terrain cache, so maps don’t have to be rebuilt on every visit. You install it from Gen1Recomp’s mod menu by importing the .zip for your version. 2 of its last 100 commits list Copilot as a co-author.

You needGen1Recomp, with your own game ROM.

Game Boy Playable

Pokémon Red / Blue (mstan)

mstan/PokemonRedAndBlueRecomp

A static recompilation of Pokémon Red and Blue for Windows with the author’s own version of gb-recompiled, derived from arcanite24’s: the Game Boy’s SM83 code is translated to C and compiled to native code, and the runtime library handles video, sound, and the mapper. One executable accepts both ROMs, and graphics, maps, and text are read from yours at launch. It uses the pret/pokered disassembly as a reference for entry points and symbols. Its author presents it as an early prototype, playable from the title screen through the Elite Four; some animations may stutter, sound may cut out briefly in busy scenes, and there’s no link cable support, while code the analysis didn’t find goes through a slower interpreter. The latest version, 0.1.1, is from May 7. 28 of its 31 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needYour own Pokémon Red (CRC32 9F7FDD53) or Blue (CRC32 D6DA8A1A) ROM, US/European (UE) release. Plus 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
