Test Drive III: The Passion (kylofon)
kylofon/testdrive3-enhanced
Test Drive III Enhanced: a native SDL3 port of Test Drive III: The Passion (Accolade, 1990), a faithful reimplementation of the original TDIII.EXE for Windows. It isn’t an emulator: the engine loads the executable’s image and the game’s data files. On top of that it adds a smooth 3D view at your display’s refresh rate, resolution up to 2560 × 1600 with anti-aliasing, a longer draw distance with gradual fog, smooth steering, soft-edged headlight beams, a finish marker on the compass, and fixes for the police and landings; the race clock counts real seconds. A launcher lets you pick car, course, skill level, and graphics options, and remap keys, and the “classic” mode keeps the original picture, with AdLib or speaker sound. The latest version, 0.2.0 (September 30), is a 64-bit Windows zip (10.4 MB). MIT license. All 20 of the repository’s commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own copy of Test Drive III: The Passion for DOS: in a folder named Game next to the program, TDIII.EXE (or TD3.EXE), PLAYDISK.DAT, DATAA–C.DAT, INSTR.DAT, and the car (C*) and scene (SCENE*) files. Plus 64-bit Windows and a multi-core CPU.
Test Drive III: The Passion (SDL3)
kylofon/test-drive-3-sdl3
A native Windows port of Test Drive III: The Passion (Accolade, 1990), a faithful C reimplementation with SDL3 made by reverse engineering the whole original program; it is not an emulator. The VGA version with AdLib / Sound Blaster music and effects can be played: title and credits, menus, the five cars, both courses with all their legs and routes, traffic, police, replay, results, and high scores. The EGA and Tandy graphics and the MT-32, Tandy, and Game Blaster sound are not ported. It comes with a launcher to pick car, course, and options, and by default it waits 23 timer ticks between frames (about 6 per second) so the game doesn’t run too fast. The only release, 0.1.0 (September 24), is a 64-bit Windows zip of about 10.8 MB. All 11 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own files of the DOS Test Drive III in a folder named Game: TDIII.EXE (packed or unpacked), PLAYDISK.DAT, DATAA.DAT, DATAB.DAT, DATAC.DAT, INSTR.DAT, and the car (C*.DAT, .LST, and .POB) and scene (SCENE*.DAT, .LST, and .HI) files; TD3.CFG is optional. The folder must be writable. Plus Windows.
