Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (Recompiled)

Unchiga/Yu-Gi-Oh-Forbidden-Memories-Recompiled

A native port for Windows, Linux, and Apple silicon macOS of the US release (SLUS-01411), built from a hand-made decompilation: all 1,134 of the game’s C functions match the original executable byte for byte, building on memories-decomp. Despite the name it isn’t a static recompilation, and it’s the successor to the same author’s PSXRecomp-based recomp. It renders at up to 4x internal resolution, in widescreen and with HD text, and with 3D Monsters face-up monsters stand on the field as their battle models. It has a mod system (new cards past the original 722, fusions, card effects, textures, music, gameplay tables) and the FM Editor to make mods without writing JSON, plus save slots, save states, a fusion helper, card drop rates, rebindable controls, and importing saves from emulator memory cards. Separately, it publishes Forbidden Memories HD as an optional download, a pack of redrawn cards, frames, and portraits. The latest stable release is 0.3.0 (October 11), and 0.3.1-preview.1 (October 18) adds a tower mode for mods. There’s also an Android build. 6,862 of its 9,353 commits list Copilot or Claude as a co-author. The repository also includes the text of the five European releases, taken from the PAL discs, to play in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.

You needYour own disc image of the US release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories for PS1 (SLUS-01411), the .bin. Plus Windows, Linux, or Apple silicon macOS; building it on Linux takes gcc and Python 3.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PSXRecomp)

Unchiga/YuGiOhForbiddenMemoriesRecomp

A static recompilation of the US release (SLUS-01411), built with PSXRecomp: the game’s MIPS code is translated to C ahead of time and compiled into a native executable. The download is a setup program holding the recompiler and the runtime source, with nothing from the game: on first run it checks your disc by CRC32, downloads a compiler if needed, and builds the game on your machine in a few minutes. There are Windows, Linux, and macOS builds, the last one experimental. It adds the FM Editor, which changes cards, drop tables, fusions, dialogue, and CPU duelists without touching the disc and exports the result as a .ygomods package; a card shop with passwords, packs, and selling; netplay through an online lobby, LAN, or a direct address, with the opponent’s hand hidden; a live duel-rank meter, a fusion assistant, adjustable drops of 0–99 cards, a way to get the 82 cards missing from every stock drop table, an experimental widescreen duel field, and cheats. It also has save states, rewind, turbo, fast loading, and a mode that keeps the picture at 59.94 fps while the game runs sped up. The last version, 0.6.2, came out on September 20: development moved to Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories Recompiled, a native port built from the decompilation, and this repository stays up without updates. Of its 297 commits, 244 list Claude or Codex as a co-author.

You needYour own disc image of the US release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories for PS1 (SLUS-01411), verified by CRC32; preferably a .cue with its .bin, though .bin, .img, .iso, and .car also work. PAL, Japanese, and Greatest Hits releases aren’t supported. Plus Windows, Linux, or macOS; the first build downloads a compiler if you don’t have one.
