Cro-Mag Rally

Game: Cro-Mag Rally (Classic Mac OS, 1998)

Cro-Mag Rally, Pangea Software’s 2000 racing game for the Mac, updated for Windows, macOS, and Linux by Iliyas Jorio with Pangea’s permission. It’s a port of the original Mac OS 9 version that aims to be the best way to play it today: it fixes bugs that got in the way and adds a few new features in the spirit of the original, such as split screen for up to four players on one computer (the original topped out at two), a subtly animated interface tweaked for widescreen displays, an optional race timer with a scoreboard, the option to change the character’s outfit on the selection screen, a proportional font with the accented characters of every language in the game, and a restyled physics editor. The OS 9 version’s NetSprockets network multiplayer is missing. 3.0.0 (June 27, 2022) was the port’s first release, and the latest, 3.0.1 (February 7, 2024), brought rebindable left stick and D-pad controls, Retina and macOS Sonoma Game Mode support on the Mac, Wayland on Linux, and better Italian and Spanish translations. Since then the code has moved to SDL 3, not yet in a release. The downloads, free or pay-what-you-want on itch.io, include the whole game, which the author publishes under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license with permission from Pangea Software.

You needNo copy needed: the game is published in full with permission from Pangea Software, and each download already includes its data. Plus Windows, macOS, or Linux (x86-64 or ARM64).
