Driver 2

Game: Driver 2 (PS1, 2000)

REDRIVER2: the PlayStation game fully disassembled and translated by hand from MIPS back to C, with no emulation (only the memory card menu was left out). Function, variable, and type names come from the debug symbols (.SYM) of the Italian and Spanish releases, worked through in Ghidra and, where that fell short, by hand in IDA. It runs on Windows and Linux on Psy-Cross, the team’s own layer that reimplements the PlayStation libraries with OpenGL, SDL2, and OpenAL, with precise vertex transformation and a Z-buffer. It has been fully playable since September 2020. It fixes bugs from the original, improves the cop AI, and restores things that didn’t work or were left unfinished, such as the Las Vegas monorail, exhaust smoke, birds, and the multiplayer cameras. It adds cutscene subtitles, longer draw distance, adjustable field of view, a widescreen-aware HUD, dynamic street lights, high-resolution fonts, automatic campaign saving, and texture and car model replacement. Version 8.0 (July 2) was released as a stable release candidate.

You needYour own two Driver 2 PlayStation CDs, dumped as ISO or BIN/CUE, from a supported release: European English (SLES-02993 and SLES-12993, 1.0 or Platinum 1.1) or US (SLUS-01161 and SLUS-01318, 1.0 or Greatest Hits 1.1). Plus Windows or Linux and Java, used to convert the movies and XA audio from your discs; on Windows, a separate launcher installs the game from the two images.
