Little Big Adventure 2

Game: Little Big Adventure 2 (DOS, 1997)

LBA2 Classic Community: a community fork of the Little Big Adventure 2 (Twinsen’s Odyssey) source code released by 2.21, the series’ owner, code that is mostly assembly with the game logic in C++. The fork brings it to 64-bit and modern compilers, has been porting the assembly to C++, with tests that compare both versions, replaces the Miles Sound System with SDL3, and plays the videos with libsmacker; it publishes builds for Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android. It adds widescreen and resolutions up to 1080p while keeping the original 640×480 mode, frame-rate-independent movement with a fixed 60 Hz simulation, controller support with rebindable controls, an optional third-person camera outdoors, optional texture filtering, and a debug console. It reads the data straight from an ISO/BIN or .cue image, and loads saves from the 1997 game. The original DOS release is its reference: that version’s bugs are only fixed if the player turns that on in the options. It hasn’t reached 1.0 yet, and releases aren’t tested with a full playthrough; the latest is 0.13.2 (October 22). Its README accepts contributions made with AI assistants, and the repository includes instructions for them; none of its last 100 commits lists an AI as a co-author. For its tests, the repository includes 16 recordings of game frames (about 18 MB) with the textures and palette drawn in them.

You needYour own copy of Little Big Adventure 2: the GOG or Steam release or the original CD, also as an ISO/BIN or .cue image; the game looks for the folder with LBA2.HQR. Plus x64 Windows, x86-64 or ARM64 Linux, or macOS 11 or later (Apple silicon or Intel).
