Otto Matic
Game: Otto Matic (Classic Mac OS, 2001)
Otto Matic, Pangea Software’s 2001 Mac game, updated for Windows, macOS, and Linux by Iliyas Jorio with Pangea’s permission. It came out as a Carbon app for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, shipped bundled with some Macs of the time, and was later ported to 32-bit Intel Macs, but it stopped working when macOS 10.15 dropped 32-bit apps and, with them, Carbon; Pangea’s last official release was 3.0.9, from February 2008. Version 4.0.0 (August 21, 2021) brought it to modern systems with the UI and scenes reworked for widescreen, modern controller support, new menus, and many gameplay and cosmetic fixes. 4.0.1 (January 31, 2023), the latest release, stabilized the physics for high frame rates, raising the non-vsync cap from 100 to 500 fps, and added seamless terrain texturing, smoother motion, settings to center and scale the infobar and to turn off automatic camera alignment behind Otto, Retina on the Mac, an ARM64 Linux build, fairer saucer abductions so every human can be rescued, and fixes for softlocks and level-specific bugs. Since then the code has moved to SDL 3, not yet in a release. It aims to stay faithful to the original, with slight updates to presentation and handling. The downloads are free and include the whole game, which the author publishes under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license with permission from Pangea Software; on itch.io you can pay what you want.
You needNo copy needed: the game is published in full with permission from Pangea Software, and each download already includes its data. Plus Windows (x86-64), macOS, or Linux (x86-64 or ARM64).
