Test Drive (SDL3)

Game: Test Drive → (DOS, 1987)

A native Windows port of Test Drive (Accolade / Distinctive Software, 1987), rewritten in C with SDL3 from reverse engineering of the original program; it is not an emulator. It includes the DOS versions in EGA, CGA, and Hercules and the Amiga version, each with its own executable, and a launcher to pick the version, game folder, options, and keys. It keeps the original’s drawing speed of 8 frames per second while driving, reads keys while they are held, and fixes bugs of the original (the Amiga ones can be kept with --original-bugs). The repository holds no game data. The latest version, 0.3.0 (October 1), is a 64-bit Windows zip; 0.1.0 and 0.2.0 came out on September 16. All 16 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needYour own files of the DOS Test Drive in a folder named Game: TDEGA.EXE (or TDCGA.EXE for CGA and Hercules), CARS.TXT, SCORES, TDSND.SND, the *.PES (EGA) or *.CMP (CGA and Hercules) archives, and the car *.BIN and *.SS files. For the Amiga version, the .adf disk image (or its extracted files). The folder must be writable. Plus Windows (the published builds are 64-bit).
