Top Gear

Game: Top Gear (SNES / Super Famicom, 1992)

A PC port of the SNES game Top Gear, presented as a faithful decomp with optional widescreen, a full-screen one-player view, and higher frame rates. The race program (the per-frame update, the renderer, the cars, the sprites, and the raster interrupts) now runs as translated C; the menus and a few routines still run the original code on LakeSnes, an embedded emulator that also checks the C code call by call. The C races drop the original’s slowdown and loading pauses, and --original plays the game’s own code throughout. Graphics, sound, and music come from your ROM, which must be unmodified; the assembly that the disassembly tool generates stays on your machine and is never published. The latest release, 0.1.3 (October 20), ships Windows and an experimental Linux build. 89 of its 90 commits list Claude as a co-author.
