Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park
Game: Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park (Windows, 2001)
WoodyRE: a reimplementation of the 2001 PC game’s engine, rebuilt by reverse engineering, that runs the original data from your own CD. Its author documented the game’s script virtual machine and every format of its 28 levels, validated byte for byte. On first start it looks for the CD (or a mounted ISO image), copies and checks about 640 MB of files, and no longer needs it after that. There are builds for Windows, Linux and Steam Deck, Android with touch controls, and, experimentally, a homebrew Switch. It adds any resolution, widescreen, windowed or fullscreen, vsync and a frame cap, and, as options, ambient occlusion, SMAA, MSAA, and difficulty tweaks, plus PlayStation and Xbox controllers with rumble, remappable controls, and HD texture packs. Saves use the original’s format, which can be imported. 89 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own CD of Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park for PC: the English 1.00 release, the Spanish one, or the 2002 Brazilian, Polish, and Russian ones; others are untested. Plus Windows, Linux with SDL2, or 64-bit Android 7.0 or later.
