Ape Escape (NVDEMU)

Game: Ape Escape → (PS1, 1999)

Ape Escape Recompiled - Enhanced Edition: a fork of mstan’s port, built with PSXRecomp from the US release (SCUS-94423), that adds macOS builds (Apple silicon and Intel) to the Windows and Linux ones and extends the launcher and the mods. Every mod is off by default: 16:9, 21:9, or adaptive widescreen, in-between frames, PGXP, skipping movies, quick gadget select, a Sky Flyer triple jump, infinite lives, health, and air, all gadgets unlocked, longer draw distance, quick retry and counters, challenges (timed hunts, no damage, limited lives), and a nightmare mode. The launcher adds save backups, a daily challenge, level cards, a Monkepedia with a caught-monkey checklist, a controller test, accessibility options, a modding kit, and an updater for Windows and macOS. It includes OpenBIOS, so the console BIOS is optional. Its README says it’s still in development, but that a 100% playthrough has been verified. Version 1.0.0 came out on October 17, and nightly builds have followed since. About 46 of its commits, all from the original project, list Claude as co-author. Its soundtrack player downloads the game’s songs from Archive.org, only when you pick a track; the project’s downloads don’t include them.

You needYour own US disc image of Ape Escape for PS1 (SCUS-94423), preferably as CUE/BIN, though CHD is accepted too. The SCPH-1001 BIOS is optional. There are builds for 64-bit Windows, Apple silicon or Intel macOS (ad-hoc signed, not notarized), and x86-64 Linux (AppImage).
