Crash: Mind over Mutant
Game: Crash: Mind over Mutant (Xbox 360, 2008)
“Mind over Recomp”: an unofficial Linux and Windows port of the Xbox 360 version, by static recompilation with the ReXGlue SDK. The project replaces the parts that still pretend to be an Xbox with its own code, one by one: profiles and saves are already its own, and it has its own Vulkan renderer, which F9 swaps with the emulated picture. It runs at 60 fps at the original game speed (120, 144, and uncapped are experimental), at 720p to 4K, and expands co-op from two to four players, with every outfit for everyone and a camera that keeps them all in view (experimental). It has unlimited, named saves as .sav files, keyboard and mouse with rebindable keys and on-screen key prompts, any controller SDL recognizes, and an options screen in the game’s own style. It’s in alpha: it boots and plays, but hasn’t been played through to the end yet. The launcher downloads about 550 MB of tools and builds the game on your machine from your ISO. The only release, 0.1.0-alpha, came out on October 7; development has continued in the repository since. Its author states it was developed with extensive help from Claude, which wrote most of the code and documentation, and all 88 of its commits list Claude as co-author.
