Grandia III

Game: Grandia III (PS2, 2005)

A native Windows version of Grandia III made by static recompilation: the game’s MIPS code, its sound driver, and its VU1 geometry programs are translated ahead of time into C/C++ and compiled for x86-64. A small runtime stands in for the PS2 hardware (graphics via Direct3D 11, sound, DMA, memory cards) and nothing is interpreted at run time. It reads the disc images when you play, without changing or copying them, and the repository contains no generated code. It offers internal resolution up to 8x, real 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen or ultrawide (menus and text stay 4:3), 60 fps in the field and, optionally, in battles, savestates in 9 slots, skippable movies, automatic Steam Deck detection, original English text or a complete German translation, and separate unofficial HD texture packs (7.5 GB). Subtitles are experimental. It works on Windows 10 and 11 and on Steam Deck or Linux with Proton; v1.0.4 is from October 28. 12 of its 14 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needYour own copy of Grandia III (USA): the ISO images of discs 1 and 2 (you can pick disc 1 at startup, or leave the images next to the executable as disc1.iso and disc2.iso). Windows 10 or 11 with a Direct3D 11.3 graphics card.
