Virtua Fighter 2
Game: Virtua Fighter 2 (Arcade, 1994)
A recompilation of the arcade Virtua Fighter 2 (Sega Model 2A board) for Mac, Windows, and Linux or Steam Deck, by the same author as the Virtua Fighter one. Every time it starts, the Intel i960 program from your ROM is recompiled to native code (ARM64 or x86-64), checked instruction for instruction and cycle for cycle against MAME’s interpreter. Only that program is recompiled: the rest of the board (the TGP geometry processor, the geometrizer and polygon renderer, the tile layers, and the sound board with its 68000 and SCSP) runs on MAME’s code. At 1x it gives the arcade’s frames and sound as MAME makes them; above that, render scales up to 6x, widescreen and ultrawide, and smooth motion at your screen’s refresh rate, with the 3D on the GPU. It has a menu, keyboard and gamepads for two players, the arcade’s settings, and, as cheats, the hidden characters Dural, MUE, and KOJAC. There’s no online play yet. It states it was made with the help of AI coding tools.
You needYour own dump of the game as MAME’s vf2 set (vf2.zip, Version 2.1). Plus a Mac, 64-bit Windows, or Linux or a Steam Deck.
