Virtua Fighter
Game: Virtua Fighter (Arcade, 1993)
A recompilation of the original arcade Virtua Fighter (Sega Model 1 board) for Mac, Windows, and Steam Deck or Linux. When it starts, the NEC V60 program from your ROM is recompiled to native code on your machine; the rest of the board (the TGP geometry coprocessor, the rasterizer, the tile layers, the sound board with its 68000, and the I/O board) is reimplemented from MAME’s code. At 1x it gives the arcade’s frames pixel for pixel; above that, render scales up to 6x, widescreen and ultrawide, and smooth motion at your screen’s refresh rate, with the 3D drawn on the GPU (Metal, Direct3D 12, or Vulkan) and checked against the CPU’s picture at startup. It has a menu, keyboard and gamepads for two players, the game in English or Japanese, and cheats: randomly mixed fighters and the characters cut from the game, such as Siba, Jeff, and Dural. There’s no online play yet. It states it was made with the help of AI coding tools, and every build is compared frame by frame with MAME.
You needYour own dump of the game as MAME’s vf set (vf.zip). Plus macOS 11 or later (Apple silicon or Intel), 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, or a Steam Deck or x86-64 Linux.
