Colin McRae Rally 2.0

pablocpas/OpenCMR2

OpenCMR2: a native port of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (PC, 2000) to current platforms, built on CMR2Decomp, the game’s decompilation. It runs the game’s original code natively, with no emulation, Wine, or DirectX wrapper: DirectDraw, Direct3D 7, DirectSound, DirectInput, DirectPlay, and Bink are replaced with SDL3, the SDL GPU API (Vulkan, Direct3D 12, Metal) or OpenGL 3.3, and code of its own. It reproduces the Direct3D 7 fixed-function pipeline in shaders, decodes the Bink videos with its own decoder, and swaps DirectPlay for UDP for LAN and internet multiplayer. It builds in SilentPatch’s improvements (widescreen resolutions with the correct perspective, a configurable field of view, and high or variable frame rates without changing the physics) and is tested against the original executable: 500 vehicle updates of a Finland stage match the original game bit for bit at 30, 60, 120, 144, and 240 fps. Everything tested works, but it’s still in development. The latest release is 1.6.0 (October 22), with packages for Windows x64, Linux (x86-64, i686, and ARM64), macOS ARM64, and Android; the repository was created on October 10 and 84 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author. It includes state dumps of the original game used by its tests (about 8 MB).

You needYour own copy of the original PC version of Colin McRae Rally 2.0; the project includes no game files, and on first launch a dialog asks for the installation folder. Plus Windows x64, Linux (x86-64, i686, or ARM64), or macOS on Apple silicon (the last two tested only by building and running the tests); the GPU needs to support Vulkan, Direct3D 12, or Metal, or at least OpenGL 3.3.

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (4-player split screen)

Dimax0987/OpenCMR2

A fork of OpenCMR2, the native SDL3 port of the game, that takes the game from 2 to 4 simultaneous players on one screen, in every mode and each with their own profile, car, and controller. The screen splits into four quadrants with the full HUD in each; in Arcade, Single Race and the championship accept 1 to 4 players with CPU drivers filling up to six cars, and in Rally, with 3 or 4 players, a “Split Screen - Contact” option lets players see and hit each other and start on a 2+2 grid. Players 3 and 4 can only use a gamepad. Every change to OpenCMR2’s code is marked “// PORT:” in the game/ folder and the release zip includes the patch with all of them. The “Coop-Multiplayer” release (October 28) is a zip of about 10 MB with opencmr2.exe and its libraries, to be extracted over an installation of the game. 87 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needA PC installation of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (with the Game, FrontEnd, Sounds, CountrySpecific, and SetupRep folders) over which the zip is extracted, replacing OpenCMR2’s opencmr2.exe and SDL3.dll. Players 3 and 4 need gamepads.
