Gears of War: Judgment (OverkillLabs3)
OverkillLabs3/gears-judgement-recomp
A native Windows build of the Xbox 360 version: the game’s PowerPC program is translated to C++ ahead of time with the ReXGlue SDK and runs on its emulated Xbox 360 graphics and system layer. It adds keyboard and mouse input that goes straight into the game’s own controls, with mouse look free of smoothing and acceleration and every action rebindable, a 60 fps limit or an unlocked frame rate (lifting the game’s 62 fps cap), SMAA and FSR 1.0, automatic quality based on your graphics card, adjustable field of view and draw distance, an on-disk shader cache, an in-game settings menu (F4), and a separate settings window. It turns off the game’s film grain, motion blur, and FXAA by default, and offers the xenia-canary community patches for this game as options. It renders at 720p by default, with 1440p as an experimental option. Its author presents it as an early release: the campaign boots and plays, but testing has mostly covered its first part and a single PC, and multiplayer and online features don’t work. Version 0.2.1 (October 11) fixed loading saves and added a choice among the twelve languages on the disc.
You needThe folder from your own retail copy of Gears of War: Judgment for Xbox 360 (title ID 4D530A26), with default.xex and the GearGame folder; it takes about 7 GB. Plus 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a DirectX 12 graphics card, 8 GB of RAM, and a fast CPU, since the game is CPU-limited: about 90–110 fps unlocked on a Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Gears of War 2 / Gears of War 3 / Gears of War: Judgment (COGBox)
Shagg88/COGBox
Native Windows versions of Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment for Xbox 360, made by static recompilation (with a preview of the first Gears of War since 0.3.0), with a launcher called COGBox that sets up your copy of each game and starts it. The Xbox 360 code is translated ahead of time to C++ and compiled into Windows programs; the hardware parts are supplied by its own renderer on Direct3D 12 (or Vulkan, experimental), which offers resolution from 1x to 4x, SMAA, FSR, DLSS, and XeSS, high frame rates, HDR10, ultrawide, split screen (in Gears 2), keyboard and mouse, and DLC and zip mods. The author says it is playable with a few hiccups: in Gears 2 every chapter plays in testing, and Gears 3 and Judgment are playable; on SteamOS (via Proton) there are texture glitches. Since 0.3.0 (October 31) releases are labelled pre-release. The Windows download is a zip of about 510 MB with the already compiled programs, which we haven’t checked inside; the README says it includes no game content. 88 of its 93 commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own copy of each game: Gears of War 2 (US disc, version 0.0.0.5, plus Title Update 6), Gears of War 3 (disc plus Title Update 6), and Gears of War: Judgment (disc plus Title Update 4), as an .iso image, Games on Demand copy, or folder; for the Gears of War preview, the disc plus Title Update 5. 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 with Direct3D 12 and about 8 to 16 GB free per game if COGBox unpacks the image.
