Mario Kart Wii
2 recomps, 1 decompilation, and 1 mod
Mario Kart Wii (Wiicompiled)
patchzyy/Wiicompiled
Native port of Mario Kart Wii via static recompilation: no emulator, no interpreter or JIT, and no PowerPC code at run time. In beta.
You needYour own legally dumped copy of the PAL version.
WheelWizard
TeamWheelWizard/WheelWizard
A Mario Kart Wii mod manager and automatic updater for Retro Rewind, a community track mod. Its authors are upfront about it: everything can be done without it, and the app exists so it only takes a few clicks. Retro Rewind runs in Dolphin with any region of the game, and also with Wiicompiled, the Mario Kart Wii recompilation by one of its authors that’s in the catalog, though that one only supports the PAL version. It’s free and open source (GPL-3.0). Its README warns that some antivirus programs flag it by mistake and explains how to check it.
You needYour own Mario Kart Wii backup, dumped by you (.iso, .gcm, .gcz, .ciso, .wbfs, .wia, or .rvz). To use it with Wiicompiled, the PAL version.
Mario Kart Wii (KartPad)
chrissotraidis/kartpad
KartPad: a static recompilation of Mario Kart Wii based on Wiicompiled, patchzyy’s project already in the catalog, which provides the translator and runtime; KartPad, maintained separately, adds the Apple and Android integration, the controls, the game chooser, game data management, and the releases. The PowerPC code is translated ahead of time and compiled as native ARM64 code, with no emulator or JIT, and graphics go through Metal on Apple platforms and Vulkan on Android. On PC there’s only the Apple silicon Mac version, which its documentation calls experimental and less tested than the Android, iPhone, and iPad ones: PadMint, by the same author, builds it from your disc, and 0.7.9 through 0.7.13 also had a ready-made download that no longer gets updates. On Mac you play with keyboard or controller, with remappable controls, controller support for up to four players in split screen (three- and four-player play isn’t fully tested yet), and an experimental mode for connecting a Wii Remote and Nunchuk over Bluetooth. It also runs Retro Rewind, a community track mod: PadMint downloads its pack when building the app and translates its code too, and playing it is optional; online play through Retro WFC has been tested on Android. 0.8.5 (October 21) updated Retro Rewind to 6.13.4. Its README states that it’s developed with substantial AI assistance for code, tests, documentation, debugging, and maintenance.
You needYour own PAL copy of Mario Kart Wii (RMCP01, revision 0); other regions aren’t supported. PadMint needs it as a disc image to build the app, and KartPad then asks for the DATA folder extracted with Dolphin or the one PadMint prepares. Plus an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) with macOS 14 or later, PadMint 0.5.1 or later, and Xcode.
Mario Kart Wii
doldecomp/mkw
Work-in-progress decompilation of Mario Kart Wii. For now only the PAL version (RMCP01) is supported.
