Star Fox 64

sonicdcer/Starfox64Recomp

Starfox 64: Recompiled: a static recompilation with N64Recomp and RT64 as its renderer, for Windows, Linux (ARM64 and Flatpak too), and macOS. It was made alongside Starship, the decompilation port, and the two projects coexist on different technologies. You load your ROM from the menu and start playing, with no extraction step. It keeps the N64’s graphical effects without hacks, runs at any frame rate (your monitor’s by default) and any aspect ratio, ultrawide included, with an option to keep the HUD at 16:9, and has settings menus you can use with mouse, controller, or keyboard, low input lag, instant loading, and mods. 1.0 came out on December 24, 2025 with a development mod (level select, cheats, and debug options), and the latest is 1.0.3 (December 30, 2025). sonicdcer’s repository was down for a while and is available again; the downloads are on GitLab.

You needYour own North American Star Fox 64 ROM, version 1.1 (Rev A). Plus a graphics card with Direct3D 12.0 (Shader Model 6), Vulkan 1.2, or Metal (at least a GeForce GT 630, Radeon HD 7750, or Intel HD 510) and, on x86-64 PCs, an SSE4.1 CPU; on a Mac, Apple silicon or a 7th-gen Intel with macOS 13.

Port (decomp) Playable

Star Fox 64 (sf64-dc, Dreamcast)

jnmartin84/sf64-dc

Note: this port isn’t for PC but for the Sega Dreamcast. sf64-dc brings Star Fox 64 to the Dreamcast from sonicdcer’s decompilation, the same one Starship is built on. Its author makes it for real hardware: running it in a Dreamcast emulator isn’t supported and may not work properly. No disc image is distributed: you generate the CDI from your own ROM, in the author’s Google Colab notebook (upload the ROM, download the CDI), with Docker, or by building it with KallistiOS. The August 23 update brought hardware-mixed audio, its own PowerVR renderer that’s closer to the N64, and better performance. It supports the Puru Pack and other rumble packs, saves to the VMU (3 blocks), and maps the controls to the Dreamcast pad, in the training mode and in-game messages too.

You needYour own US Star Fox 64 ROM, revision 1.1 (REV A, SHA-1 09f0d105f476b00efa5303a3ebc42e60a7753b7a), and a Dreamcast to burn or load the CDI on. To build it by hand, KallistiOS 2.2.1 with GCC 14.3.0 and Python.
