Bugdom
Game: Bugdom (Classic Mac OS, 1999)
Bugdom, Pangea Software’s 1999 Mac game, updated for Windows, macOS, and Linux by Iliyas Jorio with Pangea’s approval, after Pangea offered to let them port it once their Nanosaur port was done. The original used QuickDraw 3D, which never went past Mac OS 9, so until this port, playing it required a PowerPC Mac running OS 9. Version 1.3.0 (December 29, 2020) made it work on modern systems at any resolution beyond the original 640×480, with widescreen touch-ups and built-in save and settings dialogs, and 1.3.1 replaced the QuickDraw 3D code, which had been running on Quesa, with a renderer made for the game. Later releases added smoother movement at high frame rates, controller-driven menus, an option to constrain the picture to 4:3, Retina and Apple silicon on the Mac, and ARM64 Linux; the latest, 1.3.4 (January 3, 2024), fixed gameplay differences that showed up above 100 fps. Since then the code has moved to SDL 3, not yet in a release. It fixes gameplay bugs but aims to stay faithful to the original, with no changes to its design. The downloads, free or pay-what-you-want on itch.io, include the whole game, which the author publishes under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license with permission from Pangea Software.
You needNo copy needed: the game is published in full with permission from Pangea Software, and each download already includes its data. Plus Windows, macOS, or Linux (x86-64 or ARM64).
