Super Metroid (snesrev)
Game: Super Metroid → (SNES / Super Famicom, 1994)
sm: a reverse-engineered reimplementation of Super Metroid in C, by the author of zelda3. Its author presents it as an early version, with bugs and messy code. It reads the game’s data from your ROM on every launch, and while you play it also runs the original game and compares the two frame by frame: on a mismatch it saves a snapshot in saves/ and shows a countdown from 300 on screen. It has snapshots that keep the input history so playthroughs can be replayed, turbo mode, window scaling and fullscreen, an optimized PPU renderer, an option to remove the per-scanline sprite limit, OpenGL output with GLSL shaders, and autosave on quit. There are no prebuilt releases: you build it yourself, and its last change dates from April 2023. RadzPrower’s Super Metroid Launcher downloads and builds it on Windows in nearly one click.
You needYour own US Super Metroid ROM, named sm.smc (SHA-1 da957f0d63d14cb441d215462904c4fa8519c613), needed every time you play. To build it, SDL2 and, on Windows, MSYS2, Visual Studio 2022, or TCC; on Linux and macOS, make.
