Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Game: Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES / Super Famicom, 1993)
An unofficial PC port of the SNES game Zombies Ate My Neighbors. The game’s logic is being rewritten in C and validated against the original ROM’s execution, but part of the game is still emulated (it uses LakeSnes to emulate the hardware and check the port), and only a small portion of what runs natively has been translated into readable C. It adds widescreen (16:9, 16:10, and 21:9), smoother motion on high-refresh displays, USB controller support with twin-stick movement and aiming, quick save and load, optional larger hitboxes, optional cheats, and sound effects that the original doesn’t play or cuts off. The README describes it as fully playable but very much a work in progress, and states that every line of code was generated with Claude Code or Codex. The latest release (October 28) added a Linux build, still experimental, alongside the Windows one.
