Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Game: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (DS, 2009)
A native PC port of the Nintendo DS version, made by static recompilation: the game’s ARM code is translated to C and compiled on your PC, not emulated. When you pick your ROM the first time, the game is built on your PC in about a minute. It plays on a single screen by default, with the second screen as a touchable picture-in-picture and other layouts available, with an OpenGL renderer up to 16 times the DS resolution, widescreen, interpolation from 30 frames to 60 or your monitor’s rate, full gamepad play, and online play. The README calls it alpha: it boots and plays from the title screen into the field, with sound and saves, but only the opening areas have been played through; the features marked experimental (widescreen, 3D at higher frame rates, online play) have had less testing, and on Linux the crash dialog and local wireless are missing. Version 0.3.1-alpha (October 12) provides a Windows zip and a Linux AppImage. 84 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.
