King's Field II / King's Field III
Game: King's Field II (PS1, 1996)
Verdite3: a PC port of King’s Field II, the US edition (SLUS-00255) of Japan’s King’s Field III, built on RecompOne by the author of Verdite2, the King’s Field port. It adds 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9 widescreen with adjusted culling, perspective-correct textures without vertex wobble, anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion, a Z-buffer, 24-bit color, 60+ fps at a consistent game speed, longer render distance, per-pixel lighting, water with waves and reflections, smooth fog, and better audio. It has keyboard and mouse, twin-stick or analog tank controls, gyro aiming for the bow, rumble on the bow (with DualSense haptics as a work in progress), an in-game settings menu, an automatic save reload on death, and C# mods. The released builds contain no game code: the launcher recompiles it from your disc image on first launch. Its author calls it playable from start to finish, with occasional issues, and describes it as an AI-driven attempt; 203 of its 230 commits list Claude as co-author. Version 0.2.0 (October 18) added a first-run setup to choose which gameplay and graphics changes to turn on.
You needYour own King’s Field II dump (PS1, North American edition SLUS-00255), as .cue/.bin or .chd; the launcher refuses the US King’s Field (SLUS-00158), which is a different game. There are builds for 64-bit Windows (installer or zip) and x86-64 Linux (AppImage).
