The King of Fighters ’98
Game: The King of Fighters '98 (Neo Geo, 1998)
A native PC port of The King of Fighters ’98, made by static recompilation: the game’s 68000 code is translated to C and run natively on a model of the Neo Geo hardware. The README calls it alpha, with sound. It boots as an AES console, plays the intro and attract demos, and lets you play team matches against the CPU; with --verify every recompiled block is replayed in the Musashi interpreter and there were 0 mismatches over 12.1 million blocks of a 5-minute scripted session. It offers widescreen (400×224, up to 480 wide) with backgrounds extended into the margins, two players on keyboard or gamepads, and a pause menu. Version 0.1.1 (October 21) provides installers for Windows, Linux, and macOS. All 30 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own ROMs from the MAME sets kof98h and neogeo (files 242-pn1.bin, 242-p2.bin, 242-s1.bin, 242-mg1.bin, 242-c1 to c8 and 242-v1 to v4, plus neo-po.bin, sfix.sfix, sm1.sm1, and 000-lo.lo), unzipped into the roms folder. The recompiled C is generated on your machine at build time and never distributed. Plus a C and C++ compiler, CMake 3.21, and optionally SDL2; the README warns that the Windows setup hasn’t been tried with this game yet.
