Virtua Fighter 3

Game: Virtua Fighter 3 (Arcade, 1996)

A recompilation of the arcade Virtua Fighter 3 (Sega Model 3 board), by the same author as the Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 ones, still in alpha. Every time it starts, the PowerPC 603e program from your ROM is recompiled to native code (ARM64 or x86-64) and checked frame by frame against its own interpreter, which in turn matches the Supermodel reference over 173,000 test frames. The rest of the board is the port’s own code (the memory map, interrupts, the SCSI controller, the tile generator, and the Real3D renderer, on the CPU and on the GPU); only the sound board, with its 68000 and two SCSPs, runs on MAME’s code. It offers render scales up to 6x, anti-aliasing, widescreen and ultrawide (the stage backgrounds carry on from the game’s own panoramas), and up to 120 pictures a second. It has mostly been tested on Apple silicon Macs and on the Steam Deck, where it holds a steady 60; the Windows build has only been tested under Wine. Virtua Fighter 3 Team Battle isn’t supported yet. It states it was made with the help of AI coding tools.

You needYour own dump of the game as MAME’s vf3 set (vf3.zip, Revision D). Plus a Mac, 64-bit Windows, or Linux or a Steam Deck.
