Yoshi's Story
Game: Yoshi's Story (N64, 1997)
DinoTale: a static recompilation of the US release, built with N64Recomp and N64ModernRuntime, with RT64 as its renderer. It builds on the decompals decompilation (its ROM layout, symbol names, and overlay loader research) to find the game’s functions. It offers four aspect ratios: the original 4:3, stretched, an experimental hybrid that stretches the backgrounds and keeps the sprites in the middle, and Expand, also experimental, true widescreen up to 16:9 that shows more of each level, with the HUD at the window edges or in its original place. It adds screen filters (CRT, scanlines, LCD, and the xBR, xBRZ, and HQ2x upscalers), keyboard and controller support with remappable controls, and in-game settings menus. There are builds for Windows and Linux, Steam Deck included. Later pages and boss fights are still being tested, especially in Expand. 0.1.0 came out on October 11 and the latest, 0.1.6, on October 21. 80 of its 81 commits list Claude as co-author.
