Atomic Bomberman (elraro)

elraro/atomic-bomberman

A from-scratch reimplementation of Atomic Bomberman (1997) in C++20 with SDL3 and OpenGL 3.3, made by reverse engineering the original executable and checking every rule against it: the original is run under Wine and driven with scripted key presses for comparison. The rules come from that study rather than from translating the old code. It works without the original game thanks to its own free set of graphics, sounds, music, and arenas generated by the program; with your copy of the original you import its data once (on first start or under Options, Original Game Data) to get the original look and sound. It supports up to 10 players with computer opponents, a client-server network mode over TCP and UDP with a dedicated server, and builds for Linux, Windows, macOS, and Android. Version 1.0 was published on October 5. 100 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needIt doesn’t need the original game: it starts with its own free set of graphics and sounds. Optional: your copy of the original Atomic Bomberman (installed or on CD) to import its graphics, sounds, music, and arenas.

Atomic Bomberman (Egerion)

Egerion/open-atomic-bomberman-97

A clean-room reimplementation of Atomic Bomberman (Interplay, 1997) in C++20 with SDL3, called Open Bomberman. It is a deterministic 20 Hz simulation that reproduces the arithmetic of the original executable, learned by reverse engineering, and it loads the original graphics, sound, and music at run time from your own install: the repository contains nothing from the game. According to the README it is playable, with movement, bombs, kicks, punches, grab and throw, the nine diseases, closing walls, conveyors, warp holes, and trampolines, random stage rotation, and a scheme editor. It adds online games of up to ten machines, with a lobby code or a public list, a direct UDP path with a relay when the NAT refuses one, and GGPO-style rollback netcode with no input delay. Version 1.0.0 (August 1) publishes OPEN-BM95.exe. The README says all of the code was written by Claude Code, and 95 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needAn original Atomic Bomberman installation; the game data is not included. To build, CMake 3.25 or newer and a C++20 compiler (Visual Studio 2022 on Windows, any on Linux and macOS); SDL3 is fetched at build time.

Atomic Bomberman (PascalCorpsman)

PascalCorpsman/fpc_atomic

An open-source recreation of Atomic Bomberman (Interplay, 1997) in Free Pascal, focused only on multiplayer, with a modern TCP/IP network stack in place of the original IPX, its own AI, and gamepad support through SDL2. It has no single-player mode and not every screen of the original menu works; the carry-bomb feature isn’t implemented yet. The repository holds no graphics or sound: its own extractor pulls them from the files of your disc and a launcher downloads and updates the rest of the program. To get all the animations, the README recommends a community expansion pack (ani.zip) hosted outside GitHub. The latest version, 0.13003 (October 2), publishes executables for Windows and Linux. 29 of its last 100 commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needThe CD content of your own copy of Atomic Bomberman, stored on your hard drive, from which the launcher’s extractor pulls the graphics, sound, and music. Optionally the community ani.zip pack, unzipped into the DATA/ANI subfolder. Windows or Linux.
