Halo: Combat Evolved
3 ports and 1 decompilation
⑂ Fork of bnunu/halo-1
Halo: Combat Evolved (OpenCE)
OpenCommunityEdition/OpenCE
OpenCE (Open Community Edition, formerly halo-ce-universal): a port of the Halo: Combat Evolved decompilation, made from development build 2342 of the original Xbox release, for Windows, Linux, Android, and the browser; a macOS version is in progress. It isn’t an emulator: the game’s own code is compiled for each platform, with a new layer in place of the Xbox hardware, OpenGL for graphics, and SDL3 for sound and controllers. It starts from bnunu/halo-1, a fork of the punpckhdq/halo decompilation, which has its own entry. It adds multiplayer for up to 128 players with cross-play across every platform and four-player split screen, peer-to-peer internet games with a server browser and invite links, online campaign co-op, voice chat, and automatic map downloads. It supports Halo Custom Edition maps and mods made with the Halo PC tools. By default it looks as it did on the Xbox; the options add any resolution, a frame for every display refresh while the simulation stays at 30 ticks a second, an 80–150° field of view, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, HDR, and a HUD redrawn at high resolution. It updates itself, and every build that passes on all four platforms is a new release. One of its last 100 commits lists Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own Halo: Combat Evolved disc image for the original Xbox (.iso or .xiso). Any version works: the European release’s maps are adjusted to play with the North American ones. Custom Edition maps need bitmaps.map, sounds.map, and loc.map from your own Halo Custom Edition install.
Halo: Combat Evolved
punpckhdq/halo
Work-in-progress decompilation of build 2342 of Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox, a beta executable (cachebeta.exe) rather than the retail release. The README pins the target binary by its SHA-256 hash.
Halo: Combat Evolved (HaloPad)
chrissotraidis/projectreach
HaloPad: Halo: Combat Evolved for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It offers the original Xbox campaign, online matches of up to 128 players, and the Halo Custom Edition community servers, with touch controls, a controller, or keyboard and mouse. It uses the OpenCE engine (0.3.11, from October 21, 2026, carries build 244, network version 32). There’s no app to download: you build it yourself, with PadMint on an Apple silicon Mac (macOS 14.4 or later to play on a Mac) or with a GitHub Actions workflow from a fork, and then add your Xbox disc image inside the app, which copies about 2 GB of maps. Custom Edition can only be built on an Apple silicon Mac and needs Wine. The README warns that what you build contains Halo code and must not be shared, and that the project is a playable preview, with frame pacing and some Xbox graphics still being tuned. It states it’s developed with substantial AI assistance.
You needA disc image (.iso or .xiso) of your own copy of Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox (tested with the US version); Halo for PC, Custom Edition, Anniversary, and the Master Chief Collection don’t work. For Custom Edition (optional), the HaloCESetup.exe 1.00 installer, your product key, and Wine. An Apple silicon Mac on macOS 14.4 or later (or an iPhone/iPad on iOS 17.4 or later), Xcode 26 to build, and about 35 GB free for the first build.
Halo: Combat Evolved (Chupathingy)
ChupathingyCE/chupathingyce
Chupathingy: a native port of the Halo: Combat Evolved decompilation for Windows, Mac, Linux (including Steam Deck), and Android, built for stability and community play, with its own dedicated servers and the Delta network. It keeps the Xbox campaign and multiplayer maps and also supports Halo PC and Custom Edition maps. It’s online-compatible with OpenCE (build 244, network version 32): its players join games on network versions 11 to 37 and the reverse; browser builds can’t. There are 64-bit and 32-bit builds for Windows and Linux, Mac on Apple silicon or Intel (macOS 13 or later), and Android 9 or later; the latest, 0.8.0h, is from October 24, 2026. It’s a fan project that includes and downloads no Microsoft files. Licensed GPL-3.0. The repository includes the decompilation’s source code (the source folder, about 15 MB).
You needA disc image (.iso or .xiso) of your own copy of Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox, from any region: on first start it copies out the maps folder (about 2 GB). Optionally, the Halo PC CD image and the Custom Edition 1.00 installer. Windows 10 or later, Linux (glibc 2.31 or later), macOS 13 or later, or Android 9 or later; the first two for x86 and x64 only.
