Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (N64)

GTTeancum/SotE-Recomp

A static recompilation of the Nintendo 64 version, built with N64Recomp, for Windows 10 and 11. It targets the US 1.2 (Rev 2) release and checks the ROM by SHA-256; v64 and n64 byte orders are converted automatically. It includes modern and classic control schemes with rebindable keyboard, mouse, and gamepad, modern aiming with shot convergence and optional aim assist, an adjustable camera, and cheats. Optionally, if you copy the ILB*.WAV files from your PC installation into the Sdata folder, Leebo’s 31 communicator messages play with the PC voices, and the .SAN files from that version play its movies; without them it uses the ROM’s. The 0.9.6 zip (October 22), about 460 MB, also bundles two texture packs: the community V1 pack by interceptor427 and AI upscales, both loaded automatically and falling back to the original texture where no replacement exists. Still being worked on, per the project: flickering on the Steam Deck and freezes when switching to the Traditional control preset.

You needYour own US ROM of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (Rev 2, .z64; SHA-256 e7085e01…8642c), named sote.us.v1.2.z64 beside the executable. Optionally, the voice (ILB*.WAV) and movie (.SAN) files from your PC copy. Plus 64-bit Windows 10 or 11; the executable bundles SDL2 and the Visual C++ runtime.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (PC)

sp00nznet/shadows-recomp

A static recompilation of the 1997 PC version, built with pcrecomp, the same author’s toolkit for Windows games: setup strips the SteamStub protection from the Steam executable on your machine, translates its x86 code to C (2,806 functions, no errors), and compiles it. It’s LucasArts’ own code recompiled, not a remake. It boots, shows the menus, cinematics, and 3D, and the first level, the Battle of Hoth, plays; from the F10 menu Echo Base, Mos Eisley, Gall Spaceport, and the Sewers also load and run, but the other levels haven’t been played through, and music and sound are untested. It adds new controls (XInput gamepads with a linear analog stick, a mouse that steers and aims by how far it moves, and every action on a sensible button), an F10 menu with a jump to any level, cheats (invincibility, infinite lives, all weapons, and the game’s hidden debug menu), field of view, anisotropic filtering, vsync, and resolutions up to 4K, and widescreen that widens the view instead of stretching it, with centered cutscenes. According to its roadmap, everything has been checked in headless runs with scripted input, and it hasn’t yet been played on a screen with a real controller and mouse. 0.1.0-alpha.1 came out on October 19 with a Windows installer that finds the game in Steam and builds it. All 13 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needYour own installed Steam copy of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (app 560170). Plus Windows 10 or 11 and about 2 GB of free space; setup installs Python, CMake, Ninja, and the Visual Studio C++ tools if they’re missing, and the first build takes 15 to 45 minutes.
