Street Rod (Enhanced)

kylofon/streetrod-enhanced

An enhanced version of the native Street Rod port for Windows, with SDL3, no emulator, and no game files. It adds a smooth road view in races and drives through town at your display’s refresh rate, high resolution up to 2560 × 1600 with anti-aliasing, separate music and sound effects volumes, the 25 cars of the Street Rod SE data disk, and a launcher with options for cars, switches, picture, and sound; --classic gives only the original picture. The rest of the game is the original: garage, opponents, physics, police, and screens. One CPU core draws the road view, about 8.5 ms a frame at the defaults. Version 0.2.0 (September 30) is the latest of two releases, about 11 MB. All 12 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needThe files of your copy of the original DOS Street Rod (SR.EXE or SRSE.EXE, LIB1, LIB2, and HOT_DATA) in a Game folder, with the Street Rod SE expansion cars in Game\datadisk if you want them. The README notes the game is free from its copyright owner at streetrodonline.com. The folder must be writable. Windows.

Street Rod (SDL3)

kylofon/street-rod-sdl3

A faithful C reimplementation of Street Rod, by California Dreams and Logical Design Works, running natively on Windows with SDL3. It is not an emulator: the original program was reverse-engineered, documented, and rewritten in C, and the port reads the original game’s files at run time. According to the README the whole VGA version (320×200, 16 colors) with PC speaker is ported: the title, driver’s licence, newspaper, used cars and parts, haggling and selling, garage, gas station, Bob’s Drive-In with opponents, bets, and drag and road races, police, breakdowns, the calendar of the summer of 1963, saved games, hall of fame, and the ending. It is a first release; CGA, EGA, Tandy, and Hercules graphics are not ported. It comes with a launcher with car selection (the 25 cars of the Street Rod SE data disk or the originals), demo mode, and window options. Version 0.1.0 (September 26) is a zip of about 11 MB. All 16 of its commits list Claude as a co-author.

You needThe files of your copy of the original DOS Street Rod (SR.EXE, LIB1, LIB2, and HOT_DATA) in a Game folder and, for the expansion cars, Street Rod SE (SRSE.EXE with its LIB1, LIB2, and HOT_DATA) in Game\datadisk. The README notes the game is free from its copyright owner at streetrodonline.com. The folder must be writable. Windows.
