Big Red Racing (OpenRedRacing)
Game: Big Red Racing → (DOS, 1995)
A clean-room reimplementation of Big Red Racing (Big Red Software / Domark, 1996), a new portable C++ engine with SDL2 and OpenGL 3.3 that plays from your own unmodified original files. It includes all 24 circuits, the original physics ported to a deterministic integer simulation, full races, opponents that replay the original .REC ghosts, destructible scenery, sound and music, menus, split screen for up to 4 players, LAN for up to 6, a cockpit view, and gamepad support. The championship (implemented but little tested), some handling defects, and lighting still need polish. It has only been built and tested on Windows. Version 0.8 (October 11) is a portable zip of about 4.8 MB.
You needYour own copy of Big Red Racing: the installed game folder, the one holding ALWAYS.WAP and the .LEV and .VHC files; for the music, the soundtrack as .ogg files (02.ogg, 03.ogg…) in a MUSIC folder inside it. Plus 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
