Xenogears
1 recomp, 2 ports, and 1 decompilation
Xenogears
ladysilverberg/xenogears-decomp
In-progress matching decompilation of Xenogears for PS1. It targets the US release (SLUS 006.64), with other releases planned later. Its project structure is adapted from the Silent Hill decompilation.
Xenogears (Weltall)
Roman215/Weltall
A native port of Xenogears rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 (it is called Weltall), which aims to feel like a modern PC release without changing the gameplay; according to the README, the game’s behavior has been checked against the original code. It reads your disc images at run time and the repository includes no game data. Both discs are playable, with field exploration, character and Gear battles, the world map, menus, the Battling arena, and movies; the author has about 25 hours of play without a hang, and automated tests ran every map and story battle. It adds high resolutions and widescreen up to 32:9, smooth motion at any refresh rate, a free camera, per-pixel depth sorting, 3D Gears on the field and world map, 2x and 4x battle speeds, balance options, and keyboard, mouse, and gamepad support. Fan translations that only change text, pictures, and movies also play, such as the Spanish one by Romhack Hispano and the French one by Atelier Traduction. There are builds for Windows, Linux, and Android; version 0.8.5 is from October 26.
You needYour own copy of the USA release or a supported English undub, as disc images in the Games folder. BIN/CUE and CHD keep the movie audio; ISO/IMG also work, but the movies are silent. Japanese retail discs aren’t playable. You can start with disc 2 alone, or add it during play when the game asks for it.
Xenogears (OpokXeno)
OpokXeno/xenogears-recomp
XenogearsRecomp: a static recompilation of the US release, built with PSXRecomp. The game’s executable and the overlays it loads from disc (field, battle, world map) are translated to C and compiled ahead of time into a single program, along with the free OpenBIOS, which is included; the original BIOS is optional. It has its own Xenogears renderer on Vulkan, the recommended option since 0.11.0 (October 18), or OpenGL. It adds widescreen with part of the interface repositioned, 60–240 fps, supersampling, anti-aliasing (SSAA, MSAA, TAA, SMAA, and FXAA), anisotropic filtering, a true depth buffer with no z-fighting, subpixel precision that removes the graphics’ wobble, perspective-correct textures, and texture replacement compatible with RetroArch packs. It supports mods as .psxmod packages, including Perfect Works mods converted with a script, and C/C++ hooks. It speeds up menus, map transitions, and memory card access, and adds a free camera and fast-forward. Both discs work. It’s in alpha: it boots and is playable, but no one has finished it start to finish, and the project treats everything past the opening as unverified. There are Windows and Linux builds. The project states it’s developed with AI assistance: coding agents take part in reverse engineering, code generation, debugging, and documentation.
You needYour own images of both discs of the US release of Xenogears for PS1, as a .cue with its .bin or as .chd. Building it also requires the SLUS_006.64 executable from disc 1 and an SCPH1001.BIN BIOS dumped from your own console. Published builds are for 64-bit Windows and Linux.
Xenogears (Blizz127)
Blizz127/xenogears-decomp-port
The source of a native PC port layer for Xenogears (PlayStation, USA, SLUS-00664), built on a matching decompilation of the game that itself derives from ladysilverberg/xenogears-decomp (whose files have no published license and are listed separately). It is not an emulator and no BIOS is needed. The only release is an early test build for Linux x86_64, r5 (September 30); it needs six files extracted from the disc with the original decompilation’s extractor, and it contains about 6.6 KB of data tables transcribed from the game, which v0.6.0 will load from the disc instead. According to the README, boot, the title screen, New Game, the opening, and Lahan play on the port, and the Black Moon Forest route is in progress. 6 of its 7 commits list Claude as a co-author.
You needYour own copy of Xenogears (USA) Disc 1 as a raw BIN/CUE image (the Redump kind, 718,738,272 bytes); an .iso does not work. Linux x86_64.
